Shadow Voices: Finding Hope in Mental Illness
Shadow Voices: Finding Hope in Mental Illness has completed its airing with approximately 71% of ABC-TV affiliates nationally airing this documentary. It will now be re-edited for other audiences including a show for the Hallmark Channel with Naomi Judd as the host. Sales of the TV version of this documentary continue to be high. It is available in both VHS and DVD format from Mennonite Media at www.ShadowVoices.com.
Topics covered in the documentary include history and deinstitutionalization, media images and stigma, the criminal justice system and mental illness, rehabilitation and recovery, health insurance, faith community’s involvement, family support and hope.
The DVD version includes 100 “bonus minutes.” My husband and I were interviewed for a section on living with a spouse with a mental illness. Photos from the taping are included below.
